BALTIMORE — A 22-year-old woman is in serious, but stable, condition after being shot in the head near the Inner Harbor early Friday morning, according to Baltimore Police.

Police say they were near the Inner Harbor around 2 a.m. when they heard gunshots in the area. Police Commissioner Michael Harrison says the officers ran towards the gunshots and found a woman in the unit block of Commerce Street who had been shot in the head.

The woman was taken to a hospital in the area with serious injuries. She was able to tell officers she had gotten into a fight with another unknown woman when she heard a gunshot.

Harrison said in a press conference Friday afternoon he believed both women were verbally fighting inside of a club in the area before going outside. The fight then reportedly became a physical altercation.

"A short time later a car pulled up to the location and the occupant from that car began firing at the woman," Harrsion said. "Officers attempted to stop the suspects because the officers were very near and got there really quickly, but the car refused to stop. Officers have since located the vehicle and a handgun was recovered. We have a person of interest at this time who is not yet a suspect.”

Citywide Shooting detectives are investigating this incident and are asking anyone with information to call (410) 396-2221 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP
