53-year-old Annapolis man charged in stabbing death of 51-year-old man in Baltimore

BALTIMORE — A 53-year-old Annapolis man was arrested and charged in the stabbing death of a 51-year-old Baltimore man, the city’s first homicide of May.

Police said 51-year-old Vernon Jacobs, of the 400 block of Maude Avenue, was stabbed following a verbal altercation in the 3500 block of Helmstetter Street at about 7 a.m. on May 1.

Homicide detectives investigated, developing a suspect they were able to quickly identify following the questioning of witnesses.

Shortly thereafter, officers in the Southern District were able to locate and arrest 53-year-old Douglass Cantrell of Annapolis. He was taken to police headquarters and then charged with first- and second-degree murder at Central Booking, where he is being held without bail.
