Officers patrolling the 1500 block of Washington Boulevard were startled by the sound of gunfire. When they approached the area, they found a shocking discovery.
After searching the area, they found a car that had struck a tree and located the driver nearby. An investigation showed that as a result of being shot a 40-year-old man was ejected from his car after striking a tree.
The man was suffering from gunshot wounds and head trauma.
Medics were called on the scene and the man was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Homicide detectives are currently investigating the incident.
