A former part-time coach at a private Baltimore high school has been charged after being accused of sexually abusing a student.
In a letter sent to alumnae, Mercy High School says it was just before Thanksgiving when they were made aware of allegations against Ernest Jackson, who at the time was serving as a part-time soccer and indoor and outdoor track coach.
The school says they immediately notified authorities and have cooperated fully with the investigation.
On Friday, the school learned Jackson had been criminally charged.
Officials say Jackson is no longer employed at the school.
The letter to alumnae continued by stating, "Be assured that we routinely review our policies and procedures around child protection and we provide training to ensure that safeguards are in place to protect our students. As always anyone who has knowledge of aby child sexual abuse is urged to report it immediately to the appropriate authorities."
