NOTTINGHAM, Md. — The family of a woman who was killed while working at a corner store in east Baltimore Sunday night are devastated by her loss.
WMAR-2 News spoke with her loved ones as they gathered to pay their respects.
Friends and family came to pay their respects to the life of Carmen Rodriguez. Surrounded by her loved ones, Kimberly Galan grieved not only for the loss of her sister-in-law but for her brother who's lost his wife to murder.
“He’s devastated, our whole family is devastated. She wasn’t only his wife, but she was like a daughter to my mom. This is just the worse thing that we could ever imagine happening to us, and we’re just so heartbroken,” Galan said.
Rodriguez was shot and killed in front of her young children while working at the family deli Sunday night. It was a place where she worked long hours for the last three years.
“Before that she was somewhere else. My brother made her leave that place because it was so dangerous, and this one might have been a little better. And look what happened. They just killed her,” Galan said.
Her life cut short at the age of 36. Those who knew her and loved her, remember Rodriguez for being a hard working woman who also loved her family
“She was all about her family, and never went to a night club. Never did anything. She was all about her family, just work, 16 hour long shifts, come home to cook, and take care of her kids,” Galan said.
Something which Galan believes seeking justice for Carmen would provide.
"We need to find who did this to her. She didn’t deserve this. I just don’t want her to be another number. I want to bring justice to our family and to her kids, so that we can tell them when they get older, your mom was killed but her murderer is in jail forever. I think she deserves at least that,” Galan said.
Baltimore City police are still searching for a suspect or suspects. Anyone with information which could help police make an arrest and bring closure to Rodriguez's family is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-7-LOCKUP.
