Homeless man charged with stabbing step-dad to death

Posted

A homeless 27-year-old was arrested after allegedly stabbing a man, his step-father, to death on Sunday.

Police were called to the 2900 block of Brighton Street just after midnight and found 59-year-old Preston Merritt suffering from stab wounds.

Close to where police found Merritt, they said they saw a man sitting on the ground with a knife in his hand. That man was later identified as 27-year-old Gregory Brown, Merritt's homeless step-son.

Brown was disarmed and taken into custody and Merrit was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Through the course of the investigation, police discovered Brown and Merritt had previously lived together but had a confrontation months earlier. As a result of that incident, Brown was asked to leave Merritt's home.

Homicide detectives formally charged Brown with first-degree murder and related weapons violations in connection with Merritt’s death. He is currently being held at Central Booking without bail.

This incident was one of two fatal stabbings that happened in Baltimore on Sunday, there have been arrests made in both murders.
