Police make arrest in deadly shooting of attorney Warren Brown's stepson

In the last two weeks, Warren Brown and his family have experienced the gamut of emotions – Monday, the defense attorney says he’s satisfied. 

“We are pleased that they are not only ‘cutting off the head’ but they are going to the root and they’re going after all of these guys in this organization,” Brown said.

 An organization, he says, that was behind the trigger that killed his step-son, 22-year-old Louis ‘Cody’ Young.

Police released surveillance video showing the suspects jumping out of a car and shooting at Young after following him into the station.

Police think one of the men in the video is 25-year-old Samuel Cooper.

 “The suspects are bad guys – period. We know that they are involved in other things. So that’s something that our detectives are working on right now to get them all off the streets whether it be on other cases or this charge,” Chief T.J. Smith, head of media relations for the Baltimore Police Department, said.

Cooper was arrested on separate charges, but police think his arrest is the tip of this criminal iceberg.

“The individuals involved in this were targeting that vehicle. We don’t think that Louis ‘Cody’ {Dorsey} Young was the intended target of this incident,” Smith said.

Neither does Brown, who says Cody wasn’t part of the ‘streets,’ and while the investigation isn’t over, he adds there’s still a valuable lesson.

“The lesson learned is that, you cannot assume anything about your safety and you’ve got to be vigilant whenever you’re out in the public, especially in certain neighborhoods – there’s no question,” Brown said.

Cooper is charged in a separate case with 4^th degree burglary, theft, and the unauthorized taking of a motor vehicle.

Police say an arrest warrant was issued Monday for those murder charges.
