Man arrested for assault, murder of 60-year-old in West Baltimore

A man who was left unresponsive following an assault in West Baltimore earlier this month succumbed to his injuries Wednesday, Baltimore Police said.

Western District officers responded to the 600 block of North Fremont Avenue, on the border of the Harlem Park and Upton neighborhoods, for a reported assault at about 8:06 p.m. on Nov. 11. There police found 61-year-old Murfeg Hussein unresponsive, suffering from an injury to his head.

Hussein was taken to a hospital for treatment, but he never regained consciousness. He was pronounced dead Wednesday, Nov. 28. 

Investigators said Hussain was walking down the block when a man approached him from behind and struck hm in the head, causing Hussein to fall to the ground. Further investigation led police to arrest Leroy Hilton, 26, of the 500 block of Brune, in the Heritage Crossing neighborhood.

Leroy is being held without bail at Central Booking, police said.
