BALTIMORE — Baltimore Police Department's Homicide detectives are investigating a Saturday afternoon homicide that happened in West Baltimore.
At a little before 12:30 p.m., patrol officers were called to the 1300 block of Woodyear Street to investigate a reported shooting after they received a ShotSpotter alert. When officers got to the scene, they found a unidentified man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. A medic arrived and transported the victim to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead by hospital personnel shortly after his arrival.
On May 22, police identified the victim as 21-year-old James Chase.
After taking control of the investigation, Homicide detectives learned that, after being shot in the 1300 block of Woodyear Street, the victim fled to the 1300 block of Laurens Street where he eventually collapsed.
