Man dies from gunshot wound to the chest; Baltimore police investigate

Baltimore Police are investigating two crimes that happened early Saturday morning: one’s a shooting and the other’s a homicide.

The shooting happened first, at 12:02 a.m., when Eastern District Patrol officers were called to the 400 block of East 20th Street for a report of a shooting. Once at the location, officers found a 39-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds to his shoulder and foot.

After being taken to an area hospital for treatment, a preliminary investigation was done and it was revealed that the victim was visiting a friend when he was shot by a suspect. The male suspect then barricaded himself in an apartment within the block.

SWAT officers were called and they made entry into the apartment and was able to arrest the suspect without incident.

Citywide Shooting detectives are currently interviewing the suspect.

The homicide happened at about 1 a.m. in the Southwest District of Baltimore. Officers were called to the 100 block of North Monastery for a report of a shooting.

Once at the location, officers found a male victim, who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

He later died at an area hospital. The victim was later identified as 17-year-old Oliver Santos.
