Take a good look at the truck pictured on Sunday, December 10th, as it drove through the intersection of North Central Avenue and East Fayette Street striking a 64-year old pedestrian in the process.
The victim, Anthony Russel Johnson, lived in Pleasant View Gardens Senior Living where his neighbors knew him by the nickname, 'L.A.'.
"It's really bad. I'm really leery about going and crossing those streets myself because several months ago, I fell in the middle of the street. I was able to get up," said Carol Nole, one of the victim’s neighbors.
Johnson suffered multiple injuries, and the truck that struck him just kept going.
"Death was not instantaneous,” said Det. Nicole Monroe of the Baltimore City Police Department, “The accident happened on December 10th. The victim succumbed to his injuries on the 14th. Who knows? Maybe if he could have gotten some medical attention a little sooner, maybe if the driver had stopped... we will never know that, but what we do know is that it's the holiday season. He's lost his life. He suffered catastrophic injuries and there's a family that deserves answers and there's a family that deserves justice."
The intersection is clearly marked with senior crossing signs, and residents of the senior housing complex say Johnson was returning from a nearby Family Dollar store when the truck mowed him down.
The truck is described as a 2005-to-2007 model, light blue Dodge Dakota, which should have obvious damage to its front right corner.
"If anybody has seen a vehicle like that that suffered some frontend damage, if you own a body shop, if you work in a body shop and you've seen someone bring that type of vehicle is looking to have it fixed, give us a call,” said Monroe, “Every little bit of information helps."
