A six-month-old baby is back home with her mother after Baltimore County police say a woman stole the car she was in early Monday morning in Essex.

City police found the car in West Baltimore in the afternoon with the baby under the covers in the back seat of the car.

Call it road rage or call it a coincidence, either way, Karen Lipford is happy she paid extra attention to a black Mazda sedan that cut her off this afternoon.

“She cut me off. To be honest with you, it upset me that she cut me off and then the tag numbers hit me,” she said.

Tag numbers to the car county police say a woman stole from a 7-11 on Eastern Boulevard in Essex.

“At some point, while she was inside the store, the passenger of the vehicle got out – got into the driver’s side and then left with the vehicle,” Officer Jennifer Peach, with the county, said.

…and on the other end of the 911 call was Karen who’d tailed the getaway driver from the time she got cut off up until officers stopped the car.

The thief who stole the car was arrested and is being brought back to the county where she’ll be charged and processed.
