Family members initially found Jones in her bedroom and thought she was asleep. Later in the night when Jones didn't wake up, the family noticed she was dead, and called police.
Arriving officers found that Jones had suffered trauma to the upper body.
Two days later, the Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide.
Police say during an interview Woods provided a statement that conflicted with evidence collected at the scene.
Woods is facing charges of second-degree murder and using a firearm in the commission of a violent crime. He is being held without bond pending a July 10 preliminary hearing.
