PIKESVILLE, Md. — Maryland State Police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash that happened on northbound I-795 Wednesday afternoon.

Police say witnesses told them the hit-and-run suspect was seen sideswiping 71-year-old William Fanning Jr.'s car and continuing north after the crash. They say Fanning's car then drove off the right side of the roadway and hit a tree.

Fanning was later transported to Northwest Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officers from the Baltimore County Police Department located the suspect's gray 2010 Nissan Rouge with visible front end damage in a parking lot in Woodlawn.

The driver of the suspected vehicle was inside and taken into custody without incident.

Police are asking anyone with additional information on the suspect vehicle to contact the Golden Ring Barrack at (410) 780-2700.
