A 19-year-old man has been charged with fatally shooting his father inside their Towson home after an argument about a car crash, police said.
Baltimore County Police responded to a shooting inside a home in the 8100 block of Kirkwall Court just before 10 p.m. near Loch Raven Village.
Two 911 calls were placed about the incident, according to charging documents. One caller said his brother shot his father. The second caller told operators he'd shot his father.
Upon arrival, officers found the suspect, 19-year-old Devin Vallade II standing in the front doorway. The suspect told police, "It's on the floor, he attacked me and I shot him."
Officers located the victim, identified as 46-year-old Devin Vallade, in an upstairs bedroom with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Vallade was pronounced dead at the scene. Neighbors told ABC2 he was an Iraq War veteran.
His son was taken into custody at the scene, according to police.
Interviews with the family later revealed that Vallade II was involved in a car accident earlier that night. His mother came to pick him up from the scene, and once home, an argument began. The suspect's father came upstairs and a physical altercation ensued.
The suspect went to the basement, got his father's handgun and went back upstairs. He told police that he shot his father after he took a step toward him.
Court records show Vallade II was charged with first and second-degree murder after Sunday night's shooting.
When asked why he went to get a handgun instead of leaving the house, Vallade II told police, "It was cold outside. I had nowhere to go."
