BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. — A mother has been arrested and charged after she left her two small children in a car unattended while she visited the nail salon.
On Wednesday, at a little before 12:20 p.m., Baltimore County Police were called to the 3600 block of Offutt Road for child neglect. Upon arrival, the officer observed a 3-month-old boy and a 3-year-old girl inside of a parked black Honda with no adult supervision. The weather was in the 70s and the vehicle was not running.
After several attempts to locate the parent or car owner, the officer used his baton to break the driver’s side window and retrieve the children. Medics check the children to make sure they weren't in distress.
A supervisor arrived on scene and started a second attempt to knock on doors and locate the parent.
A nearby nail salon had the shades drawn but the supervisor could see people inside. After several more attempts, an employee came to the door. The officer gave the car’s make and model, and a woman said that was her vehicle and she was the parent of the two children.
The parent was identified as 21-year-old Keontae Moodie, from the 1100 block of Somerset Street.
Moodie was charged with two counts of misdemeanor Unattended Child under Family Law section on Thursday.
Following the incident, the nail salon was told to shut down and they complied.
