PARKVILLE, Md. — One man is dead following a stabbing on Christmas morning in Parkville.

Just before 11 a.m., Baltimore County Police got a call from a woman living in the 7900 block of Tilmont Avenue.

When police arrived, they found a man, identified as 63-year-old William Daniel Barry, suffering from an apparent stab wound. He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

An investigation showed that Barry and a female family member were home alone when an argument escalated into a physical assault.

"He punched her in the face several times, knocking her to the floor. There was an indication that he was on top of her once she was on the floor. She said he got up off her and at that point, she was able to grab a knife and she felt he was coming back towards her. When he came back again towards her, that's when she stabbed him in the upper body," said Cpl. Shawn Vinson.

Police could only say that the two were not married, not romantically involved, but they live together at that address.

"She was definitely physically assaulted. There was significant injuries that she received medical treatment for," said Vinson.

Police are now investigating before turning the case over to the Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office, which will determine if the woman will face any charges.

"We look to see what all factors played into this. If mental illness played into this. This is something we are looking into. And then self defense through the current state of Maryland law compared to the situation. Is this a self defense situation," said Vinson.

The decision to file charges falls to the Baltimore County State's Attorney's Office.
