Police initiated an investigative traffic stop and stopped the bus. When officers attempted to confront the suspect, he began shooting at the officers. He fired repeatedly at the officers, who then fired back.

After exchanging gunfire for an extended period of time, the suspect fled from the bus. He collapsed a short distance from the bus, suffering at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officer worn body cameras did capture video of the incident. The body-camera footage is part of the investigation. The MTA bus was equipped with working surveillance video, which will also be part of the investigation.
