Carroll County Deputies say a home was robbed while a fake BGE employee distracted the resident on Wednesday.

According to deputies, a white quad pickup truck with dark tinted windows pulled into a house on the 3200 block of Lineboro Road. It was reported that a man walked out of the truck and told the person at the home he worked for a company out of Philadelphia that was contracted by BGE to complete work on utility poles.

The man then asked the person to walk to the side of the house and show him the BGE meter box. Then he asked to see other parts of the house and said additional work may or may not need to be done. After this, he walked back to his car at a fast pace.

When the homeowner walked to the front of the house, they saw the man get into the rear driver's side door, and the truck speed away. They found the whole event suspicious and called BGE to see if they contract with out of state companies.

After finding out BGE does not, they looked around the house and discovered that money was missing.

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office wants to remind everyone to use caution whenever anyone unexpectedly enters your property. Make sure to ask for ID and record the information somewhere safe.
