PERRYVILLE, Md. — Cecil County Sheriff deputies are investigating a shooting that took place in Perryville.
On Wednesday, March 18 at around 4:25 PM, deputies responded to the unit block of Herbst Lane in reference to a gunshots complaint.
Upon arrival, deputies determined numerous gunshots had been fired in the area of the residence. As the investigation progressed, deputies located an 18-year-old boy in the area of Sharon Street Rising Sun suffering from a gunshot wound to his thigh area.
He was transported to Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware where he was treated and released for non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators were able to determine that the victim was the passenger in a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old. The driver and the victim had traveled to the unit block of Herbst Lane Perryville to confront a subject, Robert Rychwalski, at the residence over a recent vandalism.
According to police, the pair arrived in the driveway of the residence in a 2005 Dodge Neon. This is when 17-year-old Robert Bartholumu Rychwalski fired several shots from a .22 caliber rifle toward the vehicle.
Rychwalksi fired multiple shots from inside the residence through an open upstairs window. The investigation revealed that the vehicle was struck several times by gunshots and the victim was struck once. They then fled the area when they realized that they were being shot at.
Deputies were able to place Mr. Rychwalski under arrest at the residence. Rychwalski was charged as an adult due to the criminal charges against him.
Rychwalski was charged with two counts of assault first degree and two counts of reckless endangerment.
