ELKTON, Md. — Police believe a man was under the influence of drugs when he allegedly assaulted his son's grandfather with a knife and then burned down his house.

41-year-old Brandon Michael Reynolds is now being charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, as well as arson and other related charges.

According to a police investigation, Reynolds went to his son's grandfather's home in the 100 block of Silchester Drive around 3:50 p.m. on Thursday. Police believe Reynolds was holding a knife, started to argue with his son's grandfather, and eventually assaulted him.

Soon after assaulting the man, police say Reynolds poured an accelerant in the front of the house and ignited a fire. The son's grandfather was able to see smoke in the front of the house and escape unharmed.

Troopers arrived at the scene and immediately arrested Reynolds. They believe he planned the assault and was under the influence of drugs.

The investigation for this incident is still ongoing.
