For those driving along Interstate 95, the Motel 6 in Elkton may have seemed like quite a bargain, but a 25-year-old man nearly paid for his visit with his life after an attack just after three o'clock in the afternoon on Monday.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim lying on the ground bleeding from the back,” said Capt. Joseph Zurolo of the Elkton Police Department, “The male victim was able to indicate the assault actually occurred in Room 215.”

Police found evidence of a struggle in that room, but there was no sign of the assailant who had stabbed the victim multiple times in the shoulder, neck, back, and groin before the injured man ran from the room and sought help from a guest on the other side of the hotel.

Police say while that victim from Wilmington, Delaware is expected to survive, he has not been cooperative with investigators.

“The victim has been less than forthcoming with any additional information,” said Zurolo, “He was subsequently transported to Christiana Hospital and the investigation is currently open and ongoing as we speak.”

Police have not determined a motive for the attack, and witnesses say they returned with search warrants after the incident and searched a handful of other rooms looking for evidence.

At this point, they have not found any contraband, but they add that would not be out of the ordinary.

“It's ripe for that kind of activity because it's a cheap hotel,” said Zurolo, “It's less than $45 a night to stay there.  It's right off of 95.  So a lot of times, you'll get some out-of-towners to stay there and participate in illicit activity.  We have had drug activity and prostitution activity in that location just because of the environment.”

Detectives traveled to the hospital in Newark today in an attempt to learn more about the attack from the victim.
