They stop here, because it's convenient just off Interstate 95 on Mountain Road, but a plain clothes Maryland State trooper did a double take when he saw a pair of teens hop out of a van and head towards the nearby liquor store only to do an abrupt about-face.
"Two females, ages 15 and 17 near a Wawa in Joppa, Maryland...kind of observed them, believed to be suspicious, kept an eye on them," said Ron Snyder of the Maryland State Police.
The trooper also radioed the barrack and had the van's tags run only to discover it had been stolen earlier that same morning outside a complex in the Park Raven Apartments in Northeast Baltimore.
"They saw a car left unattended with the key in the ignition and decided that they were going to steal a vehicle," said Snyder.
When the teens drove to a nearby Carroll Fuel Station on Philadephia Road, more troopers arrived and moved in to make the arrests, discovering several stolen credit cards in their possession, not to mention further evidence that these were not their first crimes.
"We observed that they had ankle bracelets... monitoring bracelets on and we contacted the Department of Juvenile Services who requested that we take them the Waxter Children's Center in Laurel," said Snyder.
Following that less than joyful ride to the lockup, the two girls now face juvenile charges related to the stolen van and we're told more charges will be forthcoming.
