A Jui-Jitsu instructor from Laurel faces charges for failing to register as a sex offender in Maryland.

In 2003, Scott Brian Naugle was convicted of sexual battery of a child in a different state. As part of his sentence, Naugle was ordered to register as a sex offender for life. According to Howard County police, the 44-year-old moved from that state to Maryland and never registered.

Police got a tip about Naugle's violation status. After confirming the tip, they arrested Naugle at his place of business, Leverage Jui-Jitsu Academy in Fulton. They also learned that as head instructor, Naugle offers private lessons for students of all ages, including some for children and teens.

Naugle was released from the Howard County Detention Center on $25,000 bond and ordered not to have any contact with anyone under the age of 18. He must also register with the Maryland Sex Offender Registry within three days.

At this point, Howard County police are not aware of any allegations of sexual misconduct involving Naugle. But they are asking anyone who was victimized to call them at 410-313-STOP.
