After shooting another driver who had parked in his assigned parking space, a Columbia man is facing attempted murder and related weapons charges in Howard County, county police said.
Cornelius H. Harcum, 47, of Red Haven Road, was charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, illegal possession of a firearm, and related charged, Howard County Police said.
Early Monday, officers were called to the 6300 block of Red Haven Road at about 2:15 a.m. for a report of shots fired. A man said he was standing outside of his vehicle after parking in a residential lot while visiting a friend, when Harcum approached and told him to move, police said. Harcum then fired three shots in the man’s direction. While the man wasn’t struck, two rounds did hit his car.
Investigating detectives found surveillance footage that showed images of Harcum, police said. He was located and arrested later Monday night. Police don’t believe Harcum knew the man he shot at.
Harcum was taken to the Howard County Detention Center and is being held without bond.
