A man was shot by police early Wednesday morning after they say he robbed a CVS, tried to run away, and then pointed a weapon at officers.

Around 3:20 a.m., police say two men went to the CVS in the 6400 block of Waterloo Road and stole Oxycontin, Percocet, and cash and then drove away. After the robbery, police were quickly able to find the car with the men inside and tried to make a traffic stop.

The two men, later identified as Titus Kittrell, 18, and Jarkell Champion, 20, tried to drive away, but they ended up hitting a curb. Police say the men then jumped out of their car and Champion pointed a weapon at the officers. In response to the weapon, the officer shot Champion in the leg, but he was still able to run away.

Champion was found about 30 minutes later, but police have not been able to find the weapon he pointed at police. Kittrell was quickly found and arrested.

The Snowden River Parkway from Route 108 to Route 100 in Ellicott City is still closed as police continue to search for the weapon.
