CUMBERLAND, Md. — Maryland State Police say the circumstances surrounding the death of an inmate are suspicious.
According to police, 27-year-old Dominic Anderson was an inmate at North Branch Correctional Institution before he was found dead in his cell on Saturday night.
Investigators say on Saturday evening, a correctional officer was doing cell checks when they saw Anderson lying on the floor of his cell where he was living with another roommate. Immediate medical attention was given to Anderson by medical staff, but personnel pronounced him dead.
The cell was processed by Maryland State Police crime scene technicians are investigators say they are continuing to interview staff and inmates. Correctional officers and investigators say they have developed information and evidence that indicates this as a suspicious death.
Police say all possibilities are still being considered and nothing has been ruled out at this time.
Anderson's body was taken for an autopsy to determine the cause of his death. The results are still pending and the investigation is still ongoing.
