BALTIMORE — Thursday marked the first day of classes for the youngest students who attend Waldorf School of Baltimore.
For the past five months the school has been preparing for students return in ways that were both safe and educational.
" We have spent a lot of the summer improving, updating, developing our facilities," said executive director Pat Whitehead. "So right now you’re sitting in the rainbow room classroom."
As it stands, there is indoor classroom instruction, school is conducted outside.
The school sits on a large amount of property. The land has been measured out and allows teachers to have their own outdoor classroom with space for social distancing.
"Being outside is nothing that is strange to us," said Whitehead. "Waldorf is outside an awful lot of the time. This time we’re just out here for a little longer and we brought in some new facilities to help that."
The school says students in first through eighth grade are currently preparing for virtual learning with the option to come to campus for scheduled lessons.
