A sergeant with the Hagerstown Police Department has been arrested on drug-related charges.

Pennsylvania State Police arrested Sgt. Christopher M. Barnett at his home Thursday evening.

"I cannot and will not make any excuses for this betrayal of our agency, badge, and community," said Hagerstown Police Chief Victor Brito. "I'm personally deeply disappointed and quite frankly sickened by this criminal act. That said, I know in my heart that the men and women I serve with at the Hagerstown Police Department perform their duties with integrity and selfless dedication every day."

Police were tipped off Thursday afternoon to Barnett selling drugs while on duty and quickly obtained video of him providing a prescription narcotic to another person. Once police verified the video and witness accounts, they filed charges.

Barnett was suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation. He has been with Hagerstown Police since 2002 and obtained the rank of sergeant in 2012.
