Millions of Americans may be exposed to unsafe drinking water, according to a new Harvard study.

Scientists found unsafe levels of industrial chemicals called PFSA’s in water samples across the country. PFSA’s are actually abundant, they’re used to make things like food packaging, fabrics and non-stick cooking pans.

When ingested, they can cause health problems. Studies have linked the chemicals to high cholesterol, obesity and even cancer. Other studies indicate they may even weaken the immune system in children.

Samples show the highest level of PFSA’s were near industrial sites, military bases and waste-water treatment plants.
