First quarter crime numbers

A dramatic jump in homicide rates across more than 20 cities. But Baltimore isn't one of them!

The numbers are from The Major Cities Chiefs Police Association and focus on the first three months of 20-16.

Here's where Baltimore stands: There were 56 homicides in the first quarter of this year. That's five more than last year -- when we had 51 homicides.

The numbers for rapes are about even, too: 52 this year compared to 53 last year.

Robberies jumped dramatically. This year police recorded more than one thousand in the first quarter. Compare that to a little over 8-hundred the same time last year.

Non-fatal shootings are also up dramatically. We've had 42 more non-fatal shootings in the first part of this year -- than we did in the first part of last year. 118 in 2016 -- to 76 in 2015.

Baltimore County also appears on this list. The biggest discrepancy between 2015 and 2016 there: Non-fatal shootings. 13 this year compared to 3 last year.
