ELKTON, Md. — Detectives are still going through the surveillance camera footage from the 7-Eleven on North Street in Elkton, where a masked man shot and killed a store employee.

“The clerk inside was the victim of the shooting. She has succumbed to her injuries,” said Elkton Police Det. Sgt. Ron Odom.

That clerk has been identified as 34-year-old Brenda Kristen Duncan.

Police are stopping short of calling it a robbery for now, and it is not yet known if the victim knew the gunman or had any previous encounters with him.

Investigators have released some surveillance photos of the alleged shooter, who seems to have been unaware that someone else was inside the store when the murder occurred.

“There was a second person in there who is also an employee who was in the back room who heard what happened. They were not injured,” added Odom.

Police say it’s a brazen crime targeting an unarmed victim just a stone’s throw from their own department.

“This is highly unusual,” said Odom. “We like to think we have a safe community and that these kinds of things are very limited in happening here, but unfortunately, it’s the nature of the world we live in today.”
