BALTIMORE — On May 5, Baltimore City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby filed a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission requesting an investigation into the reporting by WBFF-Fox 45 in Baltimore.

Mosby accuses the Sinclair Broadcast Group owned station of providing "blatantly slanted, dishonest, misleading, racist, and extremely dangerous," coverage of her.

On May 10, FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr issued a scathing response calling the complaint, "a chilling and direct attack on free speech and journalistic freedom."

Carr also urged the commission to, "dismiss this complaint with prejudice by the end of [Monday]."

The non profit Media Institute also criticized Mosby's complaint.

“These government officials are asking the FCC to investigate, and presumably sanction, a local broadcast outlet because they did not like the news coverage they received. This is a direct and unacceptable threat to the First Amendment rights of the journalists involved," said Media Institute President Richard T. Kaplar.

The State's Attorney has been under recent scrutiny following the release of an Inspector General's report, and news that she and her husband are under a federal criminal investigation.
