DUNDALK, Md. — She awoke to find yellow police tape outside her house and paramedics gloves tossed in the street, but Stephanie White had no idea what had happened when she arrived home the night before to find a crime scene in front of her house on Yorkway in Dundalk.
“I asked the police officer if I could walk up to my house and I walked up to my house and I saw the police right here and a dog over there and I just went in the house,” said White. “I never came back out after that.”
“So you had no idea that a young man was shot out here?”
“Didn’t have a clue.”
It didn’t take long for Baltimore County police officers responding to a report of shots fired to discover that two of the bullets had found their mark.
“When they arrived they found 21-year-old DeShawnte Young who suffered gunshot wounds to the upper body and he was transported to the hospital where he died,” said Det. Robert Reason.
For now, police have not identified a suspect in the shooting and their asking the public for help after a crime, which has left longtime residents fearing for their own safety.
“I’ve got a 12-year-old niece who grows up around here. It’s scary,” said Samantha Smith. “Ten years ago this neighborhood wasn’t like this… when I was 27. I’m 37 now and it’s terrible around here.”
