BALTIMORE — The Friday evening death of a young child in Southwest Baltimore has been ruled a homicide.
Crews discovered the dead child inside a home in the 4700 block of Vancouver Road, after extinguishing a mattress fire.
They say the child was around 3 or 4 years old.

A community of people who live near where it happened were outraged after learning a little girl was burned to death in the fire.
A neighbor who didn’t want to share her name shared her compassion for what happened.
“I’m thinking where is the mother that’s what I’m thinking,” she said.
It’s the first question that comes to mind for many people after learning about the tragedy.
“It’s a kid and I have a kid so I can’t just sit back and not say nothing. I’m thinking where is the parents why isn’t nobody stepping out,” she continued.
On the exterior of the home there’s no visible signs that a fire existed, but behind the house there were toys for a little girl in trash can.
“I’m thinking like what’s going on it’s very confusing,” she said.
Police were called to the same home a day before the fire after someone said there was a disturbance between family members. However, when they arrived to respond to the call for service no one answered. The next day is when they found the child's body.
“I don’t know what to think. It is terrible it is, but hopefully somebody will step up and do the right thing and say what happened so this baby can get justice,” said the neighbor.
Police haven't revealed any potential motive or suspects in the case.
