FRUITLAND, Md. (WMAR) — Two people are dead after a boat they were riding on collided into a pier on the Wicomico River.
It happened Saturday around 9 p.m. near Safe Harbor Way in Fruitland.
Maryland Natural Resources Police say six adult passengers were on board the 20 foot Bayliner Boat, when it crashed into an unlit pier.
When rescue crews arrived, two of the victims were missing. Both bodies were later discovered in the water by a Salisbury Fire Department dive team.
Neither victim's identity has been released, pending family notifications.
Two other passengers were taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but police think limited vision in the dark may have played a factor.
