BALTIMORE — Giant Food donated $300,000 to the Maryland Food Bank to support MFB’s flagship child hunger program, the School Pantry Program.

A partnership between MFB and public schools statewide, the School Pantry Program provides children, their families, and surrounding communities with access to healthy food at schools throughout the school year.

The program minimizes the stigma often attached to food assistance by offering it in a familiar setting that’s already part of families’ everyday lives.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the School Pantry Program transitioned to a near-contactless distribution model via “drive-thru” or appointment-only events to ensure kids remained safe and fed, even with COVID-related school closures.
