BALTIMORE — Giant announced earlier this week that they are working on putting plexiglass shields in their stores.

The supermarket said in part, "We are also in the process of installing temporary plexiglass shields for higher-traffic areas, such as our pharmacies, cash registers, and customer service desks."

The new safety measures are expected to be completed by the end of the day.

In an effort to combat coronavirus, Giant is allowing employees to wear gloves and masks. However, Giant says employees wearing masks are not necessarily sick. The supermarket assured customers that employees who are not feeling well have been instructed not to report to work under any circumstances.

Effective Friday, March 27, most Giant stores will now close at 10 p.m.
