GREENBELT, Md. — A Greenbelt police officer died late Thursday evening, nearly two weeks after being injured in the line of duty.
On January 2, officer Christine Peters was hit by a car while investigating a crash near Edmonston and Sunnyside Roads.
Details are limited on the vehicle or driver involved. Police say the incident remains under investigation.
Peters had spent 22 years with the department.
"The Greenbelt Police Department expresses its deepest sympathies to officer Peters’ family and friends on their loss, and we mourn the loss of a friend and colleague," the department said.
Governor Larry Hogan said Friday that flags would fly at half-staff in the officer's memory.
