BEL AIR, Md. — Construction is set to begin on a new field at The John Carroll School.

The John Carroll School held a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off construction of a brand-new baseball facility Wednesday.

The new facility will be called Alumni Field at Kutcher Foundation Stadium.

The project is funded through the largest grant in school history from the Kutcher Foundation, a Harford County-based private operating foundation. It includes a new baseball facility and innovation center. There will also be spaces for learning opportunities in fields like computer science, data analytics, and sports journalism.

"We're breaking ground not really on a baseball field but first and foremost, a classroom as I see it,” said Kutcher Foundation CEO John Kutcher. "There's a tremendous amount of educational vision behind this."

Initial renovations are already complete for the innovation center. The baseball field should be ready for play in the Spring of 2020. It will have new dugouts and fencing, and a removable mound and adjustable bases to allow the school's softball team to play there as well.
