Man charged for allegedly choking tow truck employee to death over fee

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WMAR) — A man is in custody after allegedly choking a tow truck employee to death over a fee in College Park.

It happened Sunday just before 2 a.m. at a towing company in the 5500 block of College Avenue.

Prince George's County Police arrived to find 24-year-old Damian Howard putting a choke hold on an unconscious 41-year-old Tarreak Butler.

Officer's were able to get Howard off Butler, but it was too late.

Several CPR attempts to revive Butler were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at an area hospital an hour later.

Howard was arrested and charged with First and Second Degree Murder and Assault.

Investigators found that Howard attacked Butler over a towing fee.

An autopsy determined Butler died of asphyxia strangulation.

Howard is currently being held without bail.
