BALTIMORE — Baltimore City firefighters were responding to a call Monday evening when someone in a car rode by and shot a BB gun in Southwest Baltimore.

First responders were working at the scene when a car was headed toward them and fired shots from a BB gun in the 2400 block of Wilgrey Court, officials said. One firefighter was struck with BB pellets.

Officials said also said another firefighter was struck by a car leaving the scene.

The emergency responders' injuries are not life-threatening.

“Tonight, we had a senseless act of violence carried out against two of our firefighters. I had the opportunity to visit them and I’m happy to say their injuries are non life-threatening,” said Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott. “Our firefighters and EMTs are dedicated to the people of Baltimore when they need lifesaving assistance. Despite tonight’s senseless incident both firefighters remain committed to serving the people of Baltimore.

"For someone to treat them in this manner displays an unimaginable disregard for the safety and well-being of public servants who regularly place their lives on the line for others."

“Our members continue to work tirelessly to help those in need within our community and this isolated incident will not alter the way we render care,” said Fire Chief Niles R. Ford. “Our first responders made a commitment to care for residents and visitors within the City of Baltimore, and I am committed to their safety and will work alongside Mayor Brandon M. Scott to focus on the safety of all BCFD members and First Responders.”
