MedStar Health has now sent home 2,500 successfully treated COVID-19 patients.

The milestone was reached Saturday evening as patient Misael Ochoa was discharged from MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.

Hospital staff from the unit lined up to sing and cheer him on as he bid farewell to his care teams.

The 48-year-old man from Fort Washington was admitted to the hospital last week with fever and chills. Doctors diagnosed him with COVID-19 and pneumonia.

After several days of treatment with oxygen, antibiotics, and other medications, Ochoa improved and felt well enough to return home to his family.

The 2,500th discharge comes just six weeks after MedStar Health discharged it’s 1,000th COVID-19 patient, a 60-year-old man from Upper Marlboro.
