Neighborhood lit up in Baltimore to discourage crime

BALTIMORE — One Baltimore neighborhood is shining a light in an effort to discourage crime.

People who live on North Montford Avenue in Baltimore, near Patterson Park, chipped-in to buy Christmas style lights.

Tonight, the lights for the odd side of the street are on.

Neighbors say the street lamps aren't bright enough. A partnership between Patterson Park neighbors and a recent MICA graduate made the project possible.

"I really just wanted to connect the neighbors together," Anne Xin said. "Many of us don't know one another and typically neighbors only know the people to the left and right of each other and on their side of the block. So I really wanted to break the barriers and focus on the interconnections."

The even side of the street was lit earlier this year.
