THURMONT, Md. — Rangers with the National Park Service are looking for the owners of a pit bull that attacked and left a 6-year-old girl from Columbia with several stitches in her arm.

It happened Friday afternoon while the girl and her family were hiking at Catoctin Mountain Park, in Thurmont.

According to the girl's mother, the dog's owners didn't offer any help and just kept walking after the attack.

Park officials say the dog was leashed at the time, walking with a man and woman along the Yellow trail heading towards Blue Ridge Summit Vista.

The two were also walking with a brown and white spaniel type breed.

One of the main concerns is whether or not the dog is vaccinated, but it's impossible to know at this point because the owners left without providing the girl's family any information.

Anyone with information is asked to call the 24/7 Park Dispatch at 866-677-6677.
