Police warn about utility worker burglaries

Posted
and last updated

Annapolis and Baltimore City police have received reports of people knocking on doors, saying they're from the utility company and asking to check on the water and gas service.

Once you let that person inside and lead them to the water tank, someone else seizes the opportunity to come in and steal money and/or jewelry from the house.

In Annapolis, mostly elderly people have been targeted.

Remember: utility workers will rarely make unannounced home visits. If they do, ask for their ID before allowing them to come into the house.

You can always call the utility company to confirm their visit, or if something seems off, call the police.
