BALTIMORE — President Joe Biden is scheduled for an upcoming trip to Baltimore.
According to a White House Press release Biden will visit on January 30.
The President is expected to discuss replacing the Baltimore and Potomac Tunnel, and how that project will be assisted by the Infrastructure bill he signed into law last year.
Location and time has not yet been released.
The Baltimore and Potomac Tunnel is notorious for being a bottleneck for commuters, with trains only able to go 30 miles per hour in some spots.
A new infrastructure bill the president signed into law last year will assist with a replacement project.
The executive director of the Northeast Corridor Commission says that bill is vital.
"It's a perfect example of the benefits of the infrastructure bill," said Mitch Warren. "It's a 150-year-old tunnel; it needs to be replaced. It's been a priority for a while; over 100 trains a day depend on it. A link between New York and D.C. depends on it, the link between Baltimore and D.C. depends on it, and it's at risk. So the quicker we can get the Frederick Douglass Tunnel built, the Frederick Douglass Tunnel built, the better."
That Frederick Douglass Tunnel will be a new, modernized tunnel that trains could travel 100 miles per hour in.
