ROCKVILLE, Md (WMAR) — Police have arrested and charged a 21-year-old man for allegedly murdering his mother in front of a church.

On December 28 at around 6 p.m. Montgomery County Police were called to the front of Saint Raphael Catholic Church and School located at 1513 Dunster Road in Rockville. There officers found 49-year-old Jaclyn McGuigan suffering from wounds that appeared to be from a cutting type object. Despite life saving efforts, McGuigan was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Witnesses reportedly told police they heard screaming and saw the suspect standing over the victim on the ground. The suspect then reportedly fled in a Honda sedan.

Less then an hour later, officers located the vehicle abandoned at Falls Road Local Park. A check of the vehicle came back registered to McGuigan. Inside the vehicle police found property they say belonged to the victims son, Kevin McGuigan.

Detectives learned the victim was last seen earlier that evening leaving from her residence in the Honda with her son.

The following morning at approximately 7 a.m., Kevin McGuigan was taken into custody on an arrest warrant, charging him with first degree murder.
