OXON HILL, Md (WMAR) — Less than a month after three young siblings were killed in a crash, a grand jury has indicted a man prosecutors say was responsible.

On Thursday, Prince George's County States Attorney Aisha Braveboy announced charges against 27-year-old Thomas Daniel Hawks of Charles County.

It was the night of December 30 on Indian Head Highway in Oxon Hill, when Hawks allegedly rear ended a vehicle occupied by the Mejia family.

As result of the crash, 5-year-old twins Alexander and Rosalie and their 1-year-old brother Isaac were killed. The children's parents survived but were also seriously hurt.

Braveboy said Hawks was intoxicated at the time and blew a 0.17, over twice the legal limit.

Officials say Hawks, has not yet been taken into custody. He is facing three counts of vehicular manslaughter as result of gross negligence, and two counts of causing life-threatening injuries by motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

If convicted, Hawks faces up to 36-years behind bars.
