WALDORF, Md. (WMAR) — A 17-year-old student has been arrested and charged as an adult for allegedly robbing a fellow student during lunch time at a Charles County public school.

Officials with the Charles County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened on Tuesday while the victim was with several other students in the main hallway of North Point High School.

Lovelle Caleb Cannaday allegedly approached the victim from behind, pulled a knife, and demanded the student's wallet and belt.

A school administrator reportedly entered the hallway while the robbery was taking place, prompting Cannaday to walk away, before he could get the wallet.

It wasn't until after school dismissed for the day, that the Sheriff's Office was notified of the incident.

An investigation led the School Resource Officer to Cannaday at which time he was charged with felony armed robbery and attempted armed robbery, along with other related charges.

Officials say the victim was uninjured.

Cannaday remains in custody, pending an 8:45 a.m. bail review hearing on Thursday at the Charles County District Court. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for May 17.
